A Smithville Lake Engagement Session
One of the things that we love most about our clients is that no two of them are ever the same, ever. With each couple getting engaged and married we hear a different story, have a different experience and get to do different things, and get introduced and become part of their lives. One of our very, very favorite things about our clients is that they always want something different, which we love. Very, very rarely does anybody ask us to recreate a shot that we’ve previously done, or recreate something that they’ve seen somewhere else. As artists, this is one of the most flattering things our clients can do for us. They put their utmost trust in us, love being part of the creative process, and are never afraid to go along with one of Kyle’s crazy ideas. Or throw one of their own into the mix.
This was especially the case when we started discussing Ashley and Walter’s Smithville Lake engagement session. They knew from the start that they wanted to incorporate their boat and passion for flying RC planes. We work closely with each couple to come up with ideas and design their session so that it’s custom to who they are, and Ashley and Walter’s session was no different. We had so much fun with these two, and absolutely LOVED finishing their session on the lake in their boat. And once we were all done, the camera and strobes got put up and Walter took us for one heck of a ride back to the dock. We are so excited for their wedding at the downtown Kansas City Airport, but in the meantime, enjoy a peek into their beautiful engagement session at Smithville Lake!
How did you meet? Give us all of the details!
“Internet dating. Walter reached out to me (Ashley).”
Do you remember your first date?
From Walter: “…she was more than an hour late to a steak place and ordered a burger. We had planned on playing pool after, but decided not to as we were leaving to go. Did not look promising for a second date.”
From Ashley: “I met Walter with my brother and his girlfriend. I hardly spoke but I knew I wanted to see him again. I was looking forward to pool but when we got in the car my brother begged off, they were tired from a long road trip. I texted Walter we’d have to get together another time. My brother advised me Walter would think I was only blowing him off, I said ‘But I’m not!’ My brother helped me find the right words to get a second date.”
What did you think when you first met your fiancé?
From Ashley: “I thought Walter was a nice guy, someone I could see myself having fun with. “
When did you know she was the one?
From Walter: “Still not certain. Every day you see just a little bit more. A whisp of hair, an evil laugh. You just cannot know what the next moment will bring.”
Tell us about your proposal. Were you expecting it?
From Ashley: “Yes and now. It had been almost 6 years but we never talked about marriage. We both just took it one day at a time until he surprised me by starting an argument in Buca di Beppo.”
What’s the one thing you love most about each other?
From Ashley: “Walter is the kindest, best man I know. He sees the best in me and makes me want to be that for him.”
From Walter: “Ashley can operate heavy machinery, back a trailer, drive a boat, and fly RC airplanes with the best of them…What I love the most about her is that there is not just ONE THING that I love about her.”
Besides getting married, what are you looking forward to most on your wedding day? A certain moment, look or reaction/response?
“Being surrounded by our closest friends and family in an atmosphere that is so unique to us.”
