Romantic Castle Ruins Engagement Session
The word that we hear most when we meet with couples about their interest in our photography is “different.” Our lighting is different, the mood in our images is different, and we’re different from others. We make it a habit to always go to a different location for each session. We don’t just tell our couples when and where to show up for their photo sess. Collaborating with our couples to come up with photo ideas and locations is such a key part of creating images for them, and we love it!
So, the Saturday that we met with Ben and Kacie to plan their engagement session, we weren’t surprised when they said they wanted something different. After throwing a few ideas around, Ben randomly said, “well what about a castle?” Kacie looked at him like he was crazy, and I could see the wheels turning in Kyle’s head about how to tell him that might not be possible.
It just so happens, that while on Instagram that morning, I had come across a few images from Ha Ha Tonka State Park, where there are old castle ruins. I interrupted Kyle to say, well actually, I found this thing this morning. Kyle looked at me like I had horns growing out of my head. As I talked them through what I had found, an idea started to take shape for their engagement session.
Although Kansas City is near and dear to their hearts, Kacie and Ben wanted their session outside the city. They were more than happy to drive a little bit out of the way for something really unique. We love that these two wanted more of a stylized engagement session! Kacie’s blue gown was perfect against the gorgeous rock at Ha Ha Tonka.
Needless to say, we are SO happy that Ben asked for something different! We LOVE collaborating with our couples on session ideas. Ultimately the images that we’re creating will be yours. We want to make sure that they’re images that you’re absolutely in love with! Don’t ever be afraid to ask for something different, even if it seems like it’s completely out of left field!
